Workers are demanding healthy green workplaces

28th July 2014

Internet access has 'switched on' employees to the benefits of healthy green workplaces and they are demanding more from the workplaces their employers provide. With companies keen to recruit and retain the best staff there is a significant competition to be recognized as an 'Employer of Choice.' People spend more than 90% of their time inside the artificial environments of buildings.

Companies that ignore the environmental impacts of their buildings could risk unhappy employees, high staff turnover and low productivity.

Angela Loder, a professor from the University of Denver has conducted research into health, buildings and urban nature. Her research has identified one of the major branches of research in the field of healthy buildings is  Access to nature. Just gazing upon the great outdoors can boost the morale of the troops. "Recent trends in green building and landscape architecture are incorporating nature into buildings, seen in green roofs, green walls, and prioritizing views of nature," she said. "For example, in my own research I found that viewing a green roof from the workplace led to 50% better concentration and feelings of calm wellbeing, better problem-solving, and a sense of hope.

Healthy Buildings use plant displays to create green offices

How Office Landscapes can help:

We can provide 'Access to nature' with our healthy green interior plant displays. Even in city buildings where  views of nature from windows aren't possible, locating professionally maintained green plant displays around the offices, is an easy and cost effective way to incorporate nature into buildings. Just simply giving employees sight of healthy green living plants has a range of health benefits, as well as improving productivity and creativity.
