One of the UK's leading law firms wanted to give their Birmingham staff a green outdoor space this summer. After creating a usable outside space with decking and stainless steel railings they asked Office Landscapes to create a planting scheme that would add some life and colour to the grey skyline.
As you walk onto the roof we created a green corridor using clipped Buxus topiary balls planted into low square graphite planters. On each side of the Roof Garden we used a selection of different shapes and sizes of Buxus plants, which was mirrored on both sides.
The Topiary Buxus Sempervirens (commonly called Boxwood) are an ideal plant for roof gardens as they aren't prone to getting blown over. The wind can easily blow through the foliage and regular pruning keeps the plants from getting too big & top heavy.
Did you know?....The Buxus has a slow growing habit which makes the wood one of the hardest and heaviest in Europe and it is even used as a substitute for ivory. It is also used to make engravings, cabinets and even clarinets, as the timber is clean and free of the grain that is usually produced by growth rings.
