Plant Care Technician wins National Garden Award

3rd September 2016

One of our team has won the Garden Renovation of the Year Competition, held by House Beautiful Magazine

The magazine congratulated Jon & Elaine on winning & said “Elaine & Jon have turned their garden into a dreamy award-winning space awash with soft pinks, purples & creamy whites.”

The garden is a far cry from how it looked three years ago, when it was all fence and lawn with a few trees & shrubs here and there.

Now a gravel path, lined with Lavender & topiary box winds its way through the middle of the garden to a circular lawn. A wooden Pavilion at the end of the garden sits beside colourful mixed borders planted with alliums, verbascum and hydrangea.

They set out to create a tranquil cottage garden which would attract lots of insects and wildlife. There are two ponds which are homes to frogs toads & newts, there is also a ceramic bee house, a wooden Insect Hotel, bird feeders & nesting boxes.

One of the benefits of having a pond in your garden is that the frogs & toads eat the slugs so there’s no need to use slug pellets.

Team Work has been behind every stage of the gardens creation. Jon used his training from Rodbaston Horticultural College and Elaine her knowledge from a City & Guilds course in Floristry.

Together they have created a beautiful garden!
