This Orchid first came to Europe over three hundred years ago from Asia and Australia
The name Phalaenopsis means 'night butterfly' in Greek and refers to the shape of the flower. They are epyphytes and part of the Orchidedaceae family. They are often found growing on trees in tropical rainforests with their roots in the air and absorb moisture from the humid atmosphere.
